My Keyless Entry/ Security System on My Toyota Corolla Isn't Working! What Is Wrong With It?

It hasn’t been working for a couple of months now. Whenever i want to open or close my doors, there is no response and the same goes for my security system. What could be wrong with it? About how much would it be if i took it to a mechanic to fix it?

Check your owner’s manual for battery replacement in your remote and follow directions. Sometimes they’re not very specific. In that case call your local dealer and speak to either the parts or service dept. There is usually a series of key cycling and button pushing to re-program the remote. If that doesn’t work check the fuses. But at that point you’d probably be better off bringing it to the dealer.

Always check the simplest things first. That would be the battery in the key. If replacing the battery doesn’t solve the problem call the dealer for an estimate.

Most keypads operate on AG13 button-cell batteries. These batteries are typically used in power laser pointers and other small electronic devices. If your vehicle does not respond at all when you attempt to lock it remotely — that is, the horn won’t honk and the doors won’t lock — replace the battery in your keypad.
